This video is all about how I taught African Kingdoms in my class!

I discuss mapping the vegetation zones, covering the three kingdoms, the role of Islam in West Africa, and the DBQ Mansa Musa’s hajj.

Don’t forget to check the description box below for any videos or resources that I used! I don’t always mention them all in the video, but I try to include a lot, here.

Use Golf Swing Teaching Aids To Improve Your Game

Use Golf Swing Teaching Aids To Improve Your Game

Golf Swing Teaching Aids are great tool for improving your golf swing. However there are many different types of teaching aids on the market today and this makes it difficult to find one that will work for you. If you have played golf on a regular basis or even if you are just starting in your golf endeavor you will need to know what the strengths and weaknesses of your golf swing are. This best can be done by spending time with a teaching pro or with a good playing partner that knows the correct way to swing a golf club.

After you have assessed your golf swing strength and weaknesses you can begin doing the necessary research to find the best golf swing teaching aids that meet your needs. The easiest way to begin this task is to search the Internet. You will be very surprised when you see just how many golf swing teaching aids are available.

Video Analysis

Probably one of the most effective and popular golf swing teaching aids is the video camera. Most people have access to a good video camera and tripod. As a result you do not have reach deep into your pockets for new gear. Simply set up your camera on the driving range and hit some golf ball using each of your clubs. After your practice session hook up the camera to your TV and watch how you performed. Most people can readily identify their golf swing errors and set up a plan to correct them. However you also can have a teaching pro evaluate your on camera golf swing to be sure you address all your golf swing problems. Repeating this process will give you the feedback you need to develop a good golf swing. This is also a great golf swing teach aid when you start to have problems with your swing in the future.

Mechanical Golf Swing Teaching Aids

The use of specialized golf clubs such as golf swing teaching aid is also very popular. These golf clubs are made with one or more hinges on the club shaft. They are designed to fold if the club is not used to make a proper golf swing. This immediate feedback quickly tells you if your take away, downswing and swing plane are incorrect. These clubs are also designed to hit the ball when the mechanics of the golf swing are correct. Generally these hinged golf swing teaching aids include a driver and one iron. The Medicus is probably the most popular of this type of golf swing teaching aid. Depending on where you purchase your mechanical or hinged golf clubs you can expect to pay from slightly less than 0 to more than 0. Again check the Internet including eBay for the best prices.

Golf Swing Speed Radar

Golf ball speed radar is also used as golf swing teaching aid. Everyone seems want to increase their golf swing speed to increase the distance of their drive. However the real benefit to using one of the new golf swing radars is that you can check your swing consistency. Great golfers play with consistency and that is how they win tournaments. Consistency in ball speed follows proper golf swing mechanics and efficiency. These small Doppler radar units sit on the ground in front of you and measure the speed of the ball as it leaves the club face. These units will cost you about 0 on the low end and more than 0 on high end. Considering what it cost to play golf these days these are good golf swing teaching aids that will improve your game.

These are just a few of the many types of golf swing teaching aids available to the average golfer. It is really important to do your research before buying any golf swing teaching aid. Talk to your local golf pro and the people who work in your golf pro shop to see what is popular. Find out who has purchased the different teaching aids and then take the time to interview them when you see them on the course or driving range. Also go on line and read the feed back in various chat rooms and message boards. In addition there are a good many reviews on golf swing teaching aids on the Internet. Yes this sounds like a lot of work but finding the right golf swing teaching aids will improve your enjoyment of the game of golf.

Fossils: A Teaching Tool That Promotes Enthusiastic Learning

Fossils: A Teaching Tool That Promotes Enthusiastic Learning

How can you use fossils as a teaching tool? In my classrooms over the years, fossils have never failed to spark fun and enthusiasm for learning about earth sciences. I have seen students, otherwise disengaged in activities of learning, become totally captivated with the process of uncovering the fossil hiding beneath the surface of soft rock.

Fossils connect students to the history of our planet. They can simultaneously imagine the situation of ancient life, while examining current habitats and species that could become the fossils of the future.

Perhaps you are looking to bring this sort of enthusiasm to your classroom or your children at home. Fossils inspire all sorts of questions. Consider these possibilities :

  • How old is this? (Leading to the study of the Earth’s history.)
  • What kind of animal was this? (Leading to zoology and species classification.)
  • Where did it live? (Leading to habitats past and present, including botany.)
  • How did it live? (Leading to a study of vital functions—more zoology.)
  • How did it form? (Back to a study of geology and earth science.)

The list seems endless. Fossils are not only attention-getters; they are also incredibly versatile as a teaching tool. Fossils make a great theme for integrated curriculum studies.

If you get creative, there are all types of stories to be written: factual, imaginative, and even poetry. Imaginations run wild when you hold the fossil of a long-extinct species in your hand. You could write tales of life on the ancient sea floor, or how that particular animal met its demise and became the fossil you are holding today. You could create an entire language arts curriculum around it!

If it’s math you’d like to kick into gear, working with the geologic time periods offers opportunities for scientific notation, exponents, scale (when placing them on a timeline), and comparisons between lifespan lengths. Then there are the geometric qualities of the shells and chitinous exoskeletons. You could study fractals or tessellations, just to name a couple possibilities.

The biology-related curriculum is obvious. Classification, developmental changes and adaptation to environment, vital functions, and predator-prey relationships are just a few of the possibilities for further in-depth study.

Likewise, geology takes on a new meaning when seen through the fossils’ eyes. The stone containing the fossil may have once been an ocean floor, a swampy bog, or a boulder-filled riverbed. As students look at the quality of the matrix that contains their fossil, they are inspired to think about the material and situation that created it.

It seems that using fossils as a teaching tool a creative teacher, parent, or student would find an endless promise of topics to study, limited only by the personal interest and creativity of the student.

There is truly nothing like a fossil to inspire! Your students will show you the way…and love you for letting them reach deep into their creativity to do it!

English Teaching in China

English Teaching in China

“If you wanted to have challenges galore in your teaching portfolio, look no further than Teaching English in China. The demography of China combined with the factor that less than 5% of their population would be able to speak or write English with any degree of fluency is only an introductory challenge thrown at you. Brace yourselves up for a lot more as you get going with your English teaching jobs that deal with teaching English in China.

Mandarin is the local dialect in China. Please note that Mandarin is one of the toughest national languages to learn in the world. That said, people in China have grown up reading and writing it with ease. Today, if you go to China you will find that people would be able to communicate in Mandarin much more fluently than you would do in English.

Does that teaching English in China difficult?

The Chinese government has woken up to the reality that knowledge of English is a must for them to compete with the global economy. With China opening its trade borders to most of the West, it has become imperative for most of the people in China to converse and communicate well in English. For starters, teaching English in China has reached the Economic Free Zones. This is not where it stops as English has spread its tentacles to schools, universities and the more popular coffee shops.

As for statistics, here is a stunner! Close to 600 Million citizens of China are understanding English at some level. Compare that with the population of United States of America. It would not take a smart man to understand that more than twice of population living in United States of America is reading English in China. This makes your teaching English in China much easier than what it was a couple of decades ago.

This is only the tip of the iceberg

Those statistics only reveal half the picture. The true picture is that close to 40% of the Chinese population is still unaware of learning English as a Second Language. Now, that’s where your desire of teaching English in China comes to the fore. Being one of the most challenging English teaching jobs, your teaching English in China would be highly recognized at all levels. If not for anything else, your role in transforming a local economy to a global economy would be greatly appreciated.

All in all, teaching English in China is one of the opportunities that every qualified or certified teacher must look up to. Taking up English Teaching jobs in China is just an added credential for an English Teacher.”
